Thanksgiving won’t be the same this year. With Covid not much will. Yet more than three hundred residents in South Shore communities—who might have gone hungry—will enjoy a turkey dinner with all the fixings, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Mitchell Field and Meijers.
The traditional gathering of Rotarians and friends looked a bit different this year. As in past years, food was donated by Meijers and the Rotary Club. Once again it was packed in vehicles and delivered by MATC students. However everyone wore masks. Empty boxes filled the Oak Creek Salvation Army’s gymnasium, instead of the smaller space that was typically used. Rotarians and students in MATC’s Protective Services program worked together while maintaining their distance. Somehow their sense of purpose felt stronger than previous years. The joy of helping others was more satisfying. The need was certainly greater.
